Juan, the medical assistant was good and receptive. The PA who saw me was also good but I just didn't agree with her recommendations. She was gracious to accept my opinion and she maintained her professionalism despite my disagreement. She did tell me that she was putting me on dexamethasone but forgot to explain the dosage; and also antibiotic but I already know what to do with the antibiotic. I thought the prednisone was a little high--40 mg everyday for seven days. It may be a good dose but for me, it gives me quiver and crave for food that's the reason why I was hesitant to take it. She did offer me to be nebulizer but I said I'll do it at home.

The online scheduling was easy with the time slot availability shown. The hour is great, open later than others in the area, avoided going to ER. I arrived & check-in was smooth & no wait. Aria looked over my wound & stitch up the cut, & the support staff was friendly & professional. I barely felt it during the process, & she periodically reminded me if too painful, she can numb more. Great facility!

Melanie went out of her way to accommodate my husband and me when we came in to get Covid tests. Due to our unforeseen scheduling error, we didn't have an appointment at that time, but she said we could wait in case she could fit us in between patients, even though they were fully booked. She was able to complete our tests quickly and courteously. We were extremely pleased with the care we received. Thanks, Melanie!

After visiting Carbon about 10 days ago for an ear canal that was clogged with wax, my symptoms returned (ear pain, moist discharge from the ear canal.) So, unable to get an appointment with my PCP, I scheduled an appointment at Carbon. This time a different doctor saw me. As soon as she entered the room and asked me what was going on and learned that I had been using carbon oxide drops to try and re-clear my ear, she berated me and told me that I should not do that. She berated me over and over, like I was a stupid person, which put me off guard and had the effect of shutting me up. Then she looked in my ears and pronounced me to be healthy… nothing wrong. It felt like she wanted to be done with me. I told her that I had pain in my ear (to which she interrupted “take Advil”) and that every morning I woke up with a moist and slightly not nice smelling moist discharge coming from my ear. I asked if this is something that could be solved with antibiotics or steroids. She said she could give me prednisone “if I wanted” as if I would be the one to make the prescribing decision. Then I told her about the discharge and she said that she could give me some antibiotic drops, and that I should take Guifenesen. The doctor made very little effort to understand my issue and symptoms, and she had a pretty awful bedside manner. I would not want to see this doctor again. I left having zero sense of resolution, and zero confidence in the treatment plan she gave me. I guess I will try to see my PCP or go to an ENT. This was an awful waste of time and money. She prescribed antibiotic ear drops, and did not prescribe the prednisone.

Overview of STD Testing in Walnut Creek

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially if they have multiple partners or are not consistently using protection such as condoms. It's also important for those who have shared needles for drug use to get tested, as this can also lead to transmission of STDs. According to the CDC, certain groups are more at risk and should get tested regularly, including sexually active gay and bisexual men, pregnant women, and anyone who has been forced to engage in sexual activity.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, many STDs do not show symptoms immediately, meaning you could be infected and unknowingly passing the infection to others. Secondly, untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased risk of HIV. Lastly, knowing your status can help you make informed decisions about your health and the health of your partners.

STD testing options in Walnut Creek, CA:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are a convenient option for STD testing in Walnut Creek. Clinics such as STAT MED Urgent Care in nearby Concord and Carbon Health Urgent Care in Martinez offer reliable testing services. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments at these locations through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider is another good option for STD testing. They can provide you with a comprehensive sexual health check-up, and since they already know your medical history, they can provide personalized advice and treatment.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing. These centers are typically funded by the government or non-profit organizations and aim to provide accessible healthcare to all, regardless of income.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are another option. These kits can be ordered online, used in the privacy of your own home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis. Results are typically available within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Walnut Creek

Walnut Creek, located in Contra Costa County, has seen a rise in STD rates in recent years, mirroring a national trend. The most common STDs in the area are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. While these rates are concerning, they are lower than in some nearby counties, such as San Mateo County and Washoe County.

Risk factors related to STDs in Walnut Creek

Several factors could contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Walnut Creek. These include a lack of regular testing, unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and drug use. The city's proximity to larger cities such as Pleasant Hill and Concord, which have higher STD rates, could also be a factor. It's important for residents to be aware of these risks and take appropriate steps to protect their sexual health.
