The front office and screening staff were very friendly. They checked us in fast and were kind to my child who was the patient. The nurse or the doctor who saw us does not know how to accommodate to young kids (4yr). He was cold upon entering the room. He asked my kid questions as they are an adult and specifically asked if they had blurry vision, as we came in for an eye sty. My kid does not know what blurry is yet because my kid said this he told me to take my kid  to the ER. He never looked inside the eye and just touched outside, which didn’t hurt. We told the nurse what she’s been experiencing and I do not think that was heard. When  I said I wouldn’t take my kid to the ER for what looks to be an eye sty and I wanted to get drops prescribed, their attitude changed. Then they asked me to sit a waiver acknowledging that I’m making the decision to go against their recommendation and proceeded to read out the risks, which included death. He read of the risks and said death in front of my kid. My kid was scared and kept asking me afterwards if they were going to die.  It was a waste of my copay. I took my kid here because the pediatrician office was closed and the pediatric urgent care had a 2 hours wait.  This was a really bad experience. Again front office and the person who took my kids vitals were friendly and great, the nurse or doctor who saw us was horrible with kids.  Will not be coming back for my kids.

About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

Anyone who falls into high-risk categories should consider getting tested for hepatitis. This includes those who have been in contact with someone diagnosed with hepatitis, those who have shared needles or other drug paraphernalia, and individuals who have had unprotected sex with multiple partners. Healthcare workers and others who are exposed to blood on the job are also at a higher risk. People born between 1945 and 1965, often referred to as baby boomers, are five times more likely to have hepatitis C, according to the CDC.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is crucial as it can lead to serious health problems if left untreated, including liver damage, liver cancer, and even death. Early detection can lead to treatments that can potentially cure hepatitis or at least slow down the disease progression. It also helps prevent the spread of the disease to others.

Hepatitis testing options in Edison, NJ:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics in Edison, NJ, offer hepatitis testing. These facilities can provide same-day or next-day appointments, making it convenient for those with busy schedules. One such facility is Carbon Health in Franklin Township, NJ, which has a 4.68 rating and is known for its friendly staff and clean environment.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers can also conduct hepatitis testing. Regular check-ups with your primary care provider can include routine screenings for hepatitis, especially if you fall into one of the high-risk categories.

Free STD testing and community health centers

There are also free STD testing centers and community health centers in Edison that provide hepatitis testing. These centers are crucial resources for individuals who may not have health insurance or who may not be able to afford testing otherwise.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits for hepatitis are also available. These kits provide privacy and convenience, as they can be ordered online and used in the comfort of your own home.

Prevalence of hepatitis in Edison

While specific data for Edison, NJ is not readily available, the CDC has reported that New Jersey has seen a steady increase in hepatitis cases over the years. This trend is consistent with the national trend, which has also seen a rise in hepatitis cases. It's important to note that hepatitis is not limited to Edison or Middlesex County, and nearby cities like Highland Park, Society Hill, New Brunswick, Metuchen, and Barclay are also affected.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in Edison

Risk factors for hepatitis in Edison are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, sharing needles or other drug paraphernalia, having a job that exposes you to human blood, and being born between 1945 and 1965.

Other STDs in Edison

In addition to hepatitis, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis are also prevalent in Edison and surrounding areas. As with hepatitis, getting tested for these STDs is crucial for early detection and treatment. Testing for these STDs can often be done at the same locations as hepatitis testing, including urgent care centers, primary care providers, free STD testing centers, and at-home testing options. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments at 66 nearby locations through Solv’s website and mobile app.
