The staff was just wonderful And it was even a holiday And everybody was in great spirits and the doctor was lovely And knowledgeable It was quite a positive experience I appreciate the office checking in to see how things are going and I have made several calls to have a refill on a prescription that was missed in the initial visit and it's been a little challenging getting an answer but I'm sure it'll be fine eventually the dosage was quite clear when verbally discussed with the doctor

Allergy season had been wreaking havoc on my system for over a week and I couldn't take anymore when my chest began rattling from all the wheezing. The wait time was under 15 min. Bradley was so patient and attentive. I had a breathing treatment in the office and meds were called in immediately. Would definitely recommend.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

It was extremely easy to get covid tested here. The staff were so kind and fun to talk to, they make you feel very comfortable. Also, was in and out no wait time and they made it very fast and simple. Would recommend

- Verified patient on 11/27

The covid testing team had an easy process setup that was quick and safe. They also took extra care with my child to help her feel as relaxed as possible so that doing the nasal swab wasn't too scary. The team did a great job.

Best Covid testing facility. No wait time and the results are quick. Staff is always friendly and helpful. If there’s a silver lining in these crazy Covid times, this is it. PLEASE NOTE this is located near Dicks and Old Navy by the Willowgrove Mall. Same plaza. There are 2 facilities one for testing and one for vaccine.

I just want to say that so many of the staff are super friendly, and just all around sweet! They don’t make you feel bad or scary (covid testing) and I just would recommend going there! Melissa and the rest of the folk I forgot their name! But just Lovely and even on the phone professional and nice!

- Verified patient on 4/9

My daughter was incredibly scared about taking the COVID test and the woman helping to administer test was amazing. She was so good with her and helped her get over her fear. I'll never forget it

- Verified patient on 6/24

This was my first visit to this location. I was in for a Covid test and I was seen within minutes out back away from those whom may have been there for the usual illness, which is smart. Doctor and nurse were great!

- Verified patient on 10/16

I called the urgent care a few times and most of the times the person that answered was very pleasant! It was a pretty fast and easy process to get covid tested compared to everywhere else in Philadelphia

- Verified patient on 1/1

It was about 3:45 on Saturday...I found out I couldn't get a Covid test through my provider which I needed a due to possible exposure. AFC had the shortest time for appointment and turn around on results. I made appointment on website for a tele-screening and spoke with their Dr. as well who was very personable within half an hour. It was all very seamless. Scheduled for swab on Monday! So far, great experience. Well run operation!

- Verified patient on 8/30

First let me say that I think the staff was all The above, friendly, fast and the wait time was to be expected! Two things that bothered me: 1. There is a sign at the door that says if you want a Covid test you could come in and get it now! That’s not true! 2. There was suppose to be a teleconference call that was scheduled but it was a phone call! 20 minutes later than scheduled. Other than that every thing was fine. Easy fixes!!

- Verified patient on 1/9

This was my third CoVID test in the last 2 months and BY FAR, the absolute BEST experience!!! Very kind & friendly health workers. Also was given a nice gift bag with helpful virus protection products & well written virus prevention directions. Previous tests were at drive up pharmacy locations. MontCo did an amazing job with this one in Willow Grove! Thanks to all the folks who put this together!!!

- Verified patient on 10/24

This is the third time I am using the service and it is superb. Very organized, easy to register for the same day service, staff is patient and friendly while complying with all the guidelines. Most of the people coming to a COVID test site are somewhat stressed and it is nice to see friendly smiles and hear encouraging and calming voices of the staff members working there. My experience is quite different from stories I hear from my coworkers undergoing testing at different sites. I am truly grateful for the service provided.

This was for COVID Testing for my daughter. All went fine with the testing but there was poor communication provided to her on how to access the results. The phone # we provided was mine. When I texted the 5 digit code to inquire about results there was no response. We didn’t receive any email alerts. I finally called Mako. The woman who answered the phone at Mako was not very helpful either. Finally we figured out that my daughter’s login process hadn’t been set up right, but like I said this all could have been better communicated and the woman at Mako could have looked up the records for us or walked us through access steps.

I wanted to get a Covid test kind of quickly and it was really difficult finding a place that had good turnaround times for results, but this site did and everything was efficient and I got an appointment set up for the same day. I’m very happy with AFC Willow Grove.

- Verified patient on 8/3

Everyone was very helpful and pleasant. Explained what I had to do. Things went smoothly and the covid test was done quickly. Waited in my are for 3 minutes.check in was done smoothy. All people where very pleasant. There was no cost at that time.

- Verified patient on 8/22

Outdoor COVID testing site. All went perfectly, except Person in front of me in line sneezed several times during his test, with his mask pulled down. I wish workers would have waited a little longer for air circulation to disperse any potential virus before continuing immediately with testing.

- Verified patient on 10/1

This was my first time getting a COVID test here and the experience was great. I was able to get the appointment time I wanted, there was no wait, the process was simple, and the people working the site were so friendly and helpful.

- Verified patient on 12/8

Easy. Comforting. Called for a covid test. Screened online and made an apt for next day in their drive through. They expect a 1-2 day response. ...and even better, on a Saturday. Great conversation with the doctor and the nurse.

- Verified patient on 8/8

Once I got there everything was great, but I went without an appointment, because I had spend 1/2-hr and went to more than 10 websites to try and find the site where I could make an appointment, and I couldn't find it. From the Montgomery County site, "Where to get a COVID test" tells you locations, but doesn't take you to the appointment site. It's impossible to find. VERY frustrating.

- Verified patient on 1/13

Went for a covid test which was a quick & easy process. The doctor called the next day with my result (which was positive) and he was helpful & gave me treatment advice. My only complaint is that I asked for an email of the lab results & haven’t gotten it yet. I will wait another day & call if I still don’t see it.

- Verified patient on 3/18

I have directed several people to the Montgomery County Covid testing sites. I feel that the the directions for self testing and the accuracy of this testing along with timely notification of the respults c cannot be beat. I am a nurse and am very picky about where I'd send people for a PCR test. I explain that the test is like a blood pressure- at the time of the test you tested negative/positive. A negative test does not mean to stop precautions. It's just one tool in the toolbox. I monitor the science and accuracy and this is the best hands down. The staff is wonderful and the facilities who give up space for the county testing sites are angels.

Willow Grove COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Willow Grove?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Willow Grove?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Willow Grove-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Willow Grove?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Willow Grove including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Willow Grove?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Willow Grove-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Willow Grove?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Willow Grove are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Willow Grove?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Willow Grove?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
