I wanted to stop in to get tested for GP, I was able to walk in and be seen. I didn't wait long which was a plus. The MA was a male, I dont see much male MA, I too am a MA. He seemed as if he was new to being an MA. So I asked he said he's been doing it for some years. He put the tourniquet on used a straight needle & couldn't draw the blood so he switched to a butterfly which I advised he use the first time. He dropped the closed needle on the ground picked it up because it was still cased & proceeded to use it. & left the tourniquet on my arm for more than a minute. I released it, he asked why did I do that, so I told him that its not supposed to be on my arm that long, it can mess up the results of the blood test causing hemoconcentration, give me nerve damage & brushing. He said he appreciates it he was taught a different way & I should allow him to do his job. I apologize if I made him feel uneasy but I wouldn't allow him to do it wrong with me.

The staff was just wonderful And it was even a holiday And everybody was in great spirits and the doctor was lovely And knowledgeable It was quite a positive experience I appreciate the office checking in to see how things are going and I have made several calls to have a refill on a prescription that was missed in the initial visit and it's been a little challenging getting an answer but I'm sure it'll be fine eventually the dosage was quite clear when verbally discussed with the doctor

Overview of STD Testing in Yeadon

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially those with multiple partners or those who do not consistently use protection. Regular testing is recommended for individuals in the 25-40 age range, as this group has been found to have a higher incidence of STDs. It's also important for pregnant women to get tested, as some STDs can be passed onto the baby during childbirth.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial in maintaining your overall health and the health of your partners. Many STDs are asymptomatic, meaning they do not show any symptoms, but can still cause serious health complications if left untreated. Regular testing can help detect these infections early and prevent their spread. According to the CDC, early detection and treatment can significantly reduce the risk of complications such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased susceptibility to HIV.

STD testing options in Yeadon, PA:

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or who are seeking a more affordable option, free STD testing is available at community health centers. These centers often operate on a sliding scale, meaning the cost of testing is based on your income.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are also an option for those who prefer privacy. These kits can be ordered online and delivered discreetly to your home. After collecting a sample, you send it back to a lab and receive your results electronically.

Prevalence of STDs in Yeadon

Yeadon, located in Delaware County, PA, has seen a steady increase in STD rates over the years, mirroring the national trend. According to the CDC, Delaware County has a higher STD rate compared to nearby counties such as Hampden County and Berkshire County. This could be attributed to various factors such as population density, access to healthcare, and public awareness about STDs.

Risk factors related to STDs in Yeadon

Certain factors may contribute to the higher STD rates in Yeadon. These include a lack of comprehensive sex education, limited access to healthcare, and socioeconomic factors. Moreover, stigma associated with STD testing can also deter individuals from getting tested. It's crucial to combat these risk factors by promoting regular testing, increasing access to healthcare, and fostering open conversations about sexual health.
