Came in thinking I had strep throat. I have covid. No meds given or input as to current guidelines for quarantining, etc.--but I must admit I forgot to ask until I got home. Perhaps a hangout/some paperwork would have been nice

There was no wait, but I had to use an app to check in, which took about 10 minutes.  So, why are there employees at the front desk, if I’m doing their job for them?  I could see the benefit of this if there were 5 people waiting to check in… but they couldn’t do my intake when I was literally the only person in the waiting room? I was pulled into the room pretty quickly, but then waiting in the exam room for about 1/2 hour.  The doctor was friendly and listened to my list of symptoms and then examined me.   Besides the check in process and wait to be seen by the doctor , everything was positive.

About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

Anyone who is at risk for hepatitis should get tested. This includes individuals who have been exposed to the virus through unprotected sex, sharing needles, or from an infected mother to her newborn during childbirth. People with a history of liver disease or who are on long-term hemodialysis are also at risk. According to the CDC, those born between 1945 and 1965, often referred to as baby boomers, are five times more likely to have hepatitis C than other adults and should be tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is crucial because it can lead to serious health problems if left untreated, including liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Early detection can help prevent these complications and lead to more effective treatment. Furthermore, knowing your status can help prevent the spread of the virus to others.

Hepatitis testing options in Shelton, CT:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care centers such as PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Derby, Orange, and Stratford are excellent options for hepatitis testing. These centers offer same-day and next-day appointments, which can be booked through Solv's website and mobile app. With high ratings and friendly staff, these locations provide convenient and reliable testing services.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also test for hepatitis. If you have commercial insurance through your employer, this may be a cost-effective option.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing, including for hepatitis. These centers are critical resources for those without insurance or with limited financial resources.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option for hepatitis testing. These kits allow you to collect a sample at home and send it to a lab for testing. Results are typically available within a few days.

Prevalence of hepatitis in Shelton

While specific data for Shelton, CT is not readily available, we can look at state and national data for a broader perspective. According to the CDC, Connecticut has a lower rate of hepatitis C compared to the national average. However, it's important to note that hepatitis is still a concern in the state, and testing is crucial for prevention and treatment.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in Shelton

Risk factors for hepatitis in Shelton are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, sharing needles, and exposure to the virus during childbirth. Other risk factors may include close contact with someone who has hepatitis, travel to areas with high rates of hepatitis, and certain medical conditions such as liver disease or hemodialysis.

Other STDs in Shelton

In addition to hepatitis, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis are also a concern in Shelton. As with hepatitis, testing is essential for early detection and treatment of these diseases. Testing options for these STDs are similar to those for hepatitis, with urgent care centers, primary care providers, community health centers, and at-home testing kits all being viable options.
