My experience was decent except Yolonda at the desk for check in. She was rude, snappy, and unprofessional. I complained about her time with me and she told me to just pay and move on. I continued to say she was being unnecessarily unkind and she said she didnโ€™t have to be kind and that her being snappy was not a problem because I didnโ€™t know what she might be going through. She infuriated me and when I asked for upper management she told me to Google the number and would not provide it. I plan to escalate the matter.

I was able to book my appointment and complete all paperwork online. My wait time was only ten minutes or so and everyone was very friendly considering it was late on a Saturday afternoon. The nurse and the doctor were both courteous and knowledgeable. I will definitely go back if I have a need for a doctor outside my regular GPs hours.

Short Wait Time

Had been sick all day and felt horrible, but it was one of those long days at work that you canโ€™t miss. I showed up 30 minutes before they closed nervous that I wouldnโ€™t be seen or theyโ€™d be upset about it. It was quite the opposite. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. They even had to stay a little late to finish up my visit, but nobody seemed to mind, and all cared more that I would feel better soon than the inconvenience I caused them. It was my second visit, and Iโ€™ll definitely be back when life calls next time.

I felt bad all day and thought I would be able to shrug it off but decided to go in right after dinner. The receptionist was very kind and welcoming and got me checked in quickly, the triage nurse was very attentive and listened to my symptoms, and the NP, Justin, spent a good amount of time following my symptoms and listening to heart and lungs and ears. ย They treated me with great care. I highly recommend.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Hannah, CRNP was great and the MA was very nice also. The front desk clerk (Jasmine?) could use some communication skills. Walked in at 5:15pm, four people waiting in front of me. I was told that I couldnโ€™t get a covid test because it was too late (almost insinuated that I leave) โ€ฆ wasnโ€™t there for a covid test, just wanted to be seen. They closed at 8pm. At least two people were turned down to be seen after meโ€ฆ not sure why if they didnโ€™t close until 8. As an affiliate employee of HH, I was confused by what was going on and why people were being turned away at such an early time. Maybe there was more behind the scenes that I didnโ€™t see, I sure hope so.

Covid testing, fast, easy, friendly

- Verified patient on 7/26

I have been to this facility three times now. All three times Iโ€™ve had an appointment the first time I went I had to wait over an hour, the second time I waited over an hour and this time I waited two and a half hours, and the last time it was just for a Covid test. The staff are friendly, and listen to you but the wait time is absolutely ridiculous. Itโ€™s just hard to entertain your children for such a long time.

- Verified patient on 10/9

We ( my daughter, husband, and I) had an appointment scheduled. We came 15 minutes early like we were told. We were told since they only had1 room for COVID testing, weโ€™d have to wait 45 minutes to an hour to be tested. We were asymptomatic. Just wanted to know if we possibly had it before we visited our elderly relatives. We ended up waiting over 2 hours! I believe they forgot we were in our car waiting!! All the previous patients sitting in lobby were gone. We were parked in front of the door. I had been an employee with Huntsville Hospital for years and trusted their care. This was unacceptable. If the appointment time has to be made, the wait should not be 2 hours. Ridiculous

Here for Covid test. Very pleasant and quick

- Verified patient on 8/3

Iโ€™ve been twice for rapid Covid tests...while the wait can be long, the staff is very efficient and friendly.

- Verified patient on 12/2

Fantastic for a quick covid test

- Verified patient on 12/30

We went for Covid testing and were so impressed not only with their kindness and service, but they were careful and clean. They handled my nervous kiddo wonderfully! Very thankful for a practice like this in our community, thank you!

- Verified patient on 7/23

I arrived at about 3:35 for a 3:50 COVID test. At about 5:15 or 5:20 a staff member approached my car to start the process. I had to fill out a paper in addition to all the info I had entered online. I was tested about 5:40 and told that I would get a phone call with all my test results in the morning, but the Rapid test results would be available on my patient portal in about 15 minutes. I went to the web site and could not find any information about a patient portal. Frustrated, I started reading emails and found one giving info about accessing the patient portal. When I was able to access it, No Results were available. At about 9:25 I received a text stating that my test results were available. The staff was professional and courteous throughout.

Curbside covid testing went very well. Nurse was great. Gave good info and was very personable.

- Verified patient on 1/13

It takes entirely too long to be put in a room and to be seen by the doctor. In our case we could have been told by a nurse that my child's covid test was negative. We waited 1 hour to be seen. Then another 1 hour after being told the test only takes 15 minutes to be told the test was negative. It was stressful and unnecessary .

- Verified patient on 4/18

Covid testing only. Ashley was super nice and efficient

- Verified patient on 10/18

Wait time was extremely long. 2 1/2 hour just for covid testing. Which should be in and out. Then had to wait extra time to even be seen by Physican. The system could be better.

- Verified patient on 8/28

Thank you for making it easy to get a covid test! My daughter needed to be tested before going to a concert. Urgent Care for Children had plenty of same-day appointments.

- Verified patient on 9/29

Scheduled an appointment for 8:40am and it told me to arrive at 8:25am and check in so I did. I went inside and informed them I was there and they didnโ€™t take me back until around 9:15am and other walk-ins were taken back before me so I was a little frustrated with that but the staffs friendliness made up for the long wait time. I was scared to get a Covid test because I still thought they went up into your brain with it and Heather was super nice and informed me that all they had to do was go in my nostrils and my anxiety went way down. She was kind and courteous and very efficient so I was stoked about that. Definitely the nicest nurse Iโ€™ve ever had. Dr Jill Howard was incredible and just as efficient and kind. Any other issues I have I will definitely be going to those guys! The fact that you can schedule an appointment via an app and then check in that way is another huge bonus and another reason why I would choose them over other businesses.

- Verified patient on 7/30

Had Covid test at 2pm. Waited on call from dr. With results...no call. I called facility and was on hold until call was disconnected...texted back to the message that texted me about which testing cone to pull up to...no response...finally another patient pulled up next to me and staff came out to take care of them and I mentioned that dr. havenโ€™t called. She said they will call shortly...it is an hour and half later and still no call as I am typing.

- Verified patient on 4/14

Went for COVID testing. The whole process was easy and efficient. Very pleased with communications and friendliness of staff.

- Verified patient on 11/25

After reading a few reviews online, I was a little nervous but everyone was incredibly friendly and easy to work with! I know for a fact this is a very busy time for them (literally the highest COVID numbers ever) and I was blown away by how nice everyone was. I am an adult that just needed a Covid test and from my phone call to ask how to do it, to the front desk staff, to the staff in the back, they were all amazing. The nurse that did my swab noticed my nose was bleeding (of no fault of hers! It was the cold dry weather) and she was so sweet to make sure I was ok.

Trussville COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Trussville?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Trussville?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Trussville-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Trussville?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Trussville including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Trussville?

Rapid testingโ€”both PCR (molecular) and antigen testsโ€”is offered through many Trussville-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Trussville?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Trussville are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a โ€œBook Onlineโ€ button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating โ€œCOVID-19 Testโ€ as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Trussville?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1โ€“3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy timesโ€”particularly around holidaysโ€”testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Trussville?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
