Had a 3-4 day history of cough and head congestion. I have a colonoscopy in 1 week so really wanted to avoid having to reschedule as I already had to wait 6 months after scheduling due to Gastros busy schedule. I got the appt scheduled quick, waited a little over 30 min to be roomed and the PA was prompt, thorough, and had a great bedside manner. Thanks so much for seeing me.

About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

According to the CDC, anyone who has been exposed to hepatitis A, B, or C should get tested. This includes individuals who have shared needles or other drug paraphernalia, had unprotected sex, received a blood transfusion or organ transplant before 1992, or were born to a mother with hepatitis. Additionally, individuals born between 1945 and 1965, often referred to as the "baby boomer" generation, are at a higher risk for hepatitis C and should also be tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is crucial for preventing the spread of the disease and for early treatment. Hepatitis can lead to severe liver damage if left untreated, including cirrhosis and liver cancer. Early detection allows for prompt treatment, which can significantly reduce the risk of these complications. According to the CDC, many people with hepatitis do not experience symptoms until significant liver damage has occurred, making regular testing vital for those at risk.

Prevalence of hepatitis in Grand Prairie

While exact figures for Grand Prairie are not readily available, Dallas County, where Grand Prairie is located, has seen a steady increase in hepatitis cases over the years. This trend aligns with national data, which shows a rise in hepatitis cases across the country. It's important to note that these figures may not represent the full scope of the issue, as many people with hepatitis are unaware they have it.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in Grand Prairie

Risk factors for hepatitis in Grand Prairie are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include drug use, unprotected sex, and having a mother with hepatitis. Additionally, the baby boomer generation in Grand Prairie, as in the rest of the country, is at a higher risk for hepatitis C.

Other STDs in Grand Prairie

In addition to hepatitis, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis are also prevalent in Grand Prairie. Regular testing is crucial for early detection and treatment of these diseases.
