Typically I have a great experience at this location and the staff are exceptional just as they were tonight EXCEPT for the nurse practitioner, Vanetta Scandrick, APRN. Her bedside manners are simply horrible! She was very condescending and rude. I understood her reasoning behind the need to wait until my results come back before prescribing medication but her questioning me and delivery behind why she wasn’t going to prescribe me any medication were unacceptable. She needs to learn that it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. I knew the minute she walked in and introduced herself that she had poor bedside manners. I tried to endure her rudeness and stay calm but ultimately got up and left. No one deserves to be treated in the manner that she treated me tonight. She was rude, rude, rude and in my opinion, in the wrong profession. On the other hand, the receptionist and Peggy were exceptional and kind. Vanetta, not at all!!!!

Overview of STD Testing in Troy

Who should get tested for STDs?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), sexually active individuals, particularly those with multiple partners, should get tested for STDs regularly. This includes individuals who are in a monogamous relationship but have not been tested before. Pregnant women should also get tested to prevent potential transmission to their babies. Testing is also recommended for anyone who has had unprotected sex, shared needles for drug use, or has symptoms of an STD.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. First, many STDs are asymptomatic, meaning they do not present any symptoms. Without testing, these infections can go unnoticed and untreated, leading to serious health complications down the line. Second, early detection through testing allows for immediate treatment, reducing the risk of complications and preventing the spread of the infection to others. Lastly, regular testing is a critical part of maintaining overall sexual health and wellbeing.

At-home STD testing is another option. These tests can be purchased online or at a local pharmacy, and they allow you to collect a sample at home and send it to a lab for testing. This can be a convenient option for those who prefer privacy or have difficulty accessing a testing center.

Risk factors related to STDs in Troy

Several risk factors contribute to the spread of STDs in Troy. These include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and drug use, particularly the sharing of needles.
