Weโ€™re out of town due to an emergency and I was having some dizziness during early mornings. Then it persisted during the day so I stopped in your Urgent Care in Glen Allen. They took me right in and started with blood pressure testing, EKG, COVID test, xray of my abdomen and urine analysis. X-ray was performed because I was hospitalized last month for small bowel obstruction. My problem could have been from being a little dehydrated. I canโ€™t say enough good about the way I was treated by all the nurses and staff. They were very caring and professional. Thanks again for taking me in so quickly and being so thorough and professional. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in need.

Was having flu symptoms, sign in was great, the wait was okay, wasnโ€™t many people and I still waited a bit longer, person that took me back and weighed me was great, nurse checking blood pressure was great however the doctor was ice cold. More concerned about my blood pressure than the reason I was there. I told her it was normal and being treated. Told me I had an upper respiratory infection and didnโ€™t give me any medicine to get rid of the infection. She checked my ears taking the same tip and sticking it in my mouth. Iโ€™m still out of breath, wheezing, and coughing up phlegm. I think my issue was a little more serious and with my primary care physician on vacation Iโ€™m left to suffer. I called back and was told that no additional medication would be provided pick up the cough and allergy medicine and basically tough it out. No chest xray done either.

I was surprised to find out that the Urgent Care was for minor incidents and illnesses. I thought I might be having a heart attack and ended up being transferred to VCU because they werenโ€™t equipped to handle it and I was taken aback that they didnโ€™t even offer Richmond ย Community ER as an option.

I drove up and the parking lot was completely full. My thoughts were that there would be a long wait. Walked in and only a few people in the waiting room. I was checked in within 5 mnutes of my arrival. I was seen within 10 minutes of arriving. The doctor came in within 5 minutes of my being put into a patient area. The doctor (whose name I do not remember and I have thrown away all paperwork) was extremely nice. He reminds me of the doctors that people remark, "He has such a good bedside manner." First impressions with patients really do matter. And he gave a very good first impression. He was professionally and friendly and an excellent communicator. He provided an ancedote on what I was experiencing. That really helped. I have been to this Patient First before and have taken a good friend there. Each time has been a good experience. The staff are nice and each doctor that I have seen is friendly and able to diagnosis the problem. I like this Patient First better than my Primary Care Physician and have even inquired as to using them as my PCP. I was in and out within 30 minutes and recommend them highly.

About Lead Testing

Lead Testing is a diagnostic test used to measure the levels of lead in the blood. Lead is a toxic metal that can have harmful effects on various body systems, especially in children, pregnant women, and individuals with occupational lead exposure. This test is essential for early detection and prevention of lead poisoning.

Who Should Get Tested

If you reside in Midlothian, Virginia, and have risk factors for lead exposure or suspect lead poisoning, Lead Testing is recommended. Risk factors may include living in an older home with lead-based paint, working in lead-related industries, or having a history of pica (ingesting non-food items) in children.

Lead Testing in Children

In children, Lead Testing is especially crucial as lead exposure can cause developmental delays, learning difficulties, and behavioral problems. Children should be screened for lead exposure at ages 1 and 2 years, and more frequently if they are at higher risk.

Testing Methods

Lead Testing is typically performed using a small blood sample, usually obtained from a fingerstick or venipuncture. Blood samples are then sent to a laboratory for analysis.

Interpreting the Results

The interpretation of Lead Testing results is based on the concentration of lead in the blood. Lead levels are measured in micrograms per deciliter (ฮผg/dL). Elevated lead levels indicate lead exposure, and additional testing and interventions may be needed to address lead poisoning.

Preventing Lead Exposure

Preventing lead exposure is essential for protecting individuals from the harmful effects of lead poisoning. Measures to reduce lead exposure include:

  • Regular inspection and maintenance of homes with lead-based paint
  • Proper handwashing and personal hygiene, especially for children
  • Using lead-safe practices in occupations with potential lead exposure
  • Ensuring a balanced and nutritious diet to reduce lead absorption

Following the Test

If Lead Testing indicates elevated lead levels, healthcare providers will work with individuals and families to identify the source of lead exposure and implement necessary interventions to reduce exposure and prevent lead poisoning.

Early detection and prevention through Lead Testing are critical in protecting the health and well-being of individuals, especially children, from the harmful effects of lead exposure.
