About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

According to the CDC, anyone who has been exposed to the hepatitis virus, has had sexual contact with someone infected, used intravenous drugs, or traveled to countries with high rates of hepatitis should consider getting tested. Those with chronic liver disease, HIV, or who are pregnant should also be tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is essential for early detection and treatment. Hepatitis, if left untreated, can lead to severe liver damage, including cirrhosis and liver cancer. It's also crucial for preventing the spread of the virus to others.

Prevalence of hepatitis in Wilkinsburg

The prevalence of hepatitis in Wilkinsburg, PA, part of Allegheny County, is similar to the national average according to the CDC. However, it's important to note that the actual number of cases may be higher due to underreporting and the fact that many people with hepatitis don't know they're infected.
