About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone who has been exposed to the risk factors of hepatitis should consider getting tested. This includes individuals who have had unprotected sex, shared needles, or have been in close contact with a person diagnosed with hepatitis. Additionally, those who have traveled to countries with high rates of hepatitis, or were born to a mother with hepatitis should also get tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it allows for early detection and treatment, which can prevent the disease from progressing to severe liver damage or liver cancer. Secondly, it helps to prevent the spread of the disease to others. According to the CDC, many people with hepatitis are unaware they have it, as symptoms may not appear until the disease has progressed. Therefore, testing is the only sure way to know if you have hepatitis.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing, including for hepatitis. These centers are a valuable resource, especially for those without insurance or with limited financial means.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option for those who prefer privacy or cannot access a testing center. These kits can be ordered online, and the samples are sent back to a lab for testing. Results are usually available within a few days.

While specific data for Paramus is not readily available, Bergen County, where Paramus is located, has seen a steady number of hepatitis cases over the years, according to the CDC. The prevalence of hepatitis in Bergen County is comparable to the national average, but lower than some nearby counties like Hampshire and Worcester.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in Paramus

Risk factors for hepatitis in Paramus are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, drug use, and close contact with a person with hepatitis. Additionally, individuals who have traveled to countries with high rates of hepatitis or were born to a mother with hepatitis are also at risk.
